Private universities search for a toehold

Twenty years after fall of communism, a competitive market between public and private universities does not seem to have arrived in Slovakia. Successful private universities are the exception rather than the rule. Accreditation maps Slovakia’s academic landscape

Last year was in many ways historical and unforgettable for most Slovak universities. There were several scandals as media revealed one school issuing so-called express diplomas to children of academic staff (and others) and discovered plagiarized text being proudly presented by some Slovak academics as the fruits of their own work. Instead of accepting five thousand students the universities accepted seven thousand

Thanks to the idea of accepting thousands more students during the crisis, the number of students increased especially in general courses. Which graduates are interesting for the market?

In 2009, The Academic Raking and Rating Agency ARRA in cooperation with the portal Profesia (Occupation) published a study about the position of graduates in the labor market.
